How to restart Heat Link or reset it to factory defaults

When troubleshooting, you have two reset options: simply restart Heat Link to help it reconnect to the network, or reset Heat Link to factory defaults to remove it from the app altogether and start from scratch.

You can restart or reset Heat Link to factory defaults by pressing and holding the Nest button for a specific amount of time. The Nest button is the large button on the front of Heat Link.

How to restart Heat Link

Restarting Heat Link is like restarting a computer or a phone. It simply turns off Heat Link, then turns it back on. After powering back up, Heat Link will automatically reconnect to your thermostat and continue running your system according to your schedule.

How to reset Heat Link to factory defaults

Resetting Heat Link to factory defaults erases all settings and disconnects it from your thermostat.

Note: Only use a factory reset if you've exhausted other troubleshooting steps or have been instructed to do so.

  1. Press and hold Heat Link's button for 20 seconds.
  2. While you're holding the button, Heat Link's status light will turn off, then it will start quickly blinking green and yellow. Release the button.
  3. When the factory reset is complete, Heat Link's status light will blink green and yellow.
  4. Normally, Heat Link should automatically reconnect to your Nest thermostat after you reset it to factory defaults. Wait a few moments and then check your thermostat to confirm.
    • If your thermostat asks for a pairing code, look on the bottom of Heat Link for the 6-digit code.
    • If your thermostat is showing an error code, visit our article about thermostat error codes for further troubleshooting.

Tip: If you need to heat your home while Heat Link is disconnected from your thermostat, you can manually turn the heat on and off by pressing Heat Link's button.
