Not cooling

mjsmom
Community Member

I've had my nest for about 2 years, actually about 1 year as the first one had to be replaced. All was working fine until this summer. The thermostat doesn't keep up with the temperature setting.  Yes it was an extremely hot summer, but it's cooler now and still not working properly.  I have had hvac tech out who checked the unit, cleaned it and checked coolant level.  Still no change, I'm now wondering if it's my nest and not my ac unit.  The temperature seems to match up only during the night.  Any suggestions?  Thank you.

Hi mjsmom,

Thanks for reaching out. I'd love to know more about this. Could you share a photo of your current thermostat's wiring? Also, gather power readings from your Nest Learning Thermostat. Follow the steps below:

  1. Press the thermostat ring to bring up the Quick View menu.
  2. Turn the ring to Settings and press to select.
  3. Turn the ring to Technical Info and press to select.

I look forward to your response.

Best,

Renz

Thank you for responding.  I can't figure out how to attach a picture to this message, I do not have any attachment icons available.

The power readings are:

Battery - 3.947 V

Voc - 33.97 V

Vin - 33.97 V

lin - 200 mA(c)

The wiring is as follows:

on the left side:  Y1 - yellow wire, G - green wire, OB - orange wire

on the right side:  W1 - white wire, C - black wire, RH - red wire

Thank you for your attention.

Hello mjsmom,

Thanks for the update. The power reading looks good, and the wiring looks like you have a heat pump system with auxiliary heating. Are you getting any kind of message when you call for cooling?

Also, can you try to feel the air coming out of your vents and gauge it from 1 to 10, with 10 being the coldest?

To attach the image, you can go to this link: Google Nest Community Forum. Hit reply on the thread, and you'll see a camera icon or three horizontal lines to expand the toolbar, where you can click the camera icon and send your image.

Cheers,

I have not gotten any error messages and on a scale of 1-10, I'd say the air feels about a 7
